2014 Ypsi Area Holiday Events


The bells will be a ringing, Rudolph will be a running, and the carolers will be a singing! This holiday season, the Ypsilanti area goes red, green, blue, silver and, in Michigan tradition, icy cold. We’re arming you with ideas and links to some of the best seasonal events for this holiday season.

2014 Ypsilanti Holiday Events

Depot Town Tree-Lighting Celebration
When: Wednesday, November 26
Where: Depot Town
Details: To kick off Christmas Ypsilanti style, the Depot Town Association is hosting a tree-lighting celebration.

Starlight Spree and Tree Lighting
When: Friday, December 5
Where: Downtown Ypsilanti
Details: Sing carols, light the downtown tree, enjoy hot cocoa and cookies, and meet Santa! Then stroll through downtown, and do some holiday shopping.

Cookie Walk
When: Saturday, December 6
Where: St. Luke’s Episcopal Church
Details: Come to St Luke’s Episcopal and buy your home made holiday cookies by the pound. Enjoy the the historical church, some holiday music, and get in the holiday spirit.

YMOW’s Holiday Home Tour
When: Saturday, December 6- Sunday, December 7
Where: Ypsilanti Area
Details: The Tour will include six private homes as well as the First Baptist Church of Ypsilanti, which is our home!  At each house you visit there will be holiday decor, beverages and a appetizers or other menu items from many great Ypsilanti area restaurants.  A few stops will even include musical entertainment.

Holiday Bells Concert w/ YSO
When: Sunday, December 7
Where: Towsley Auditorium
Details: Join the Ypsilanti Symphony Orchestra and the Detroit Handbell Ensemble for a joyful start to the 2014 holiday season. From traditional sweets and festive warmth to the music of both living composers and those who inspired them.

Breakfast with Santa

Where: Depot Town
Details: Enjoy a nice holiday breakfast with Santa in Depot Town.

D.I.Ypsi – An Indie Art Fair

When: Saturday, December 13- Sunday, December 14
Where: Riverside Arts Center
Details: A handmade art fair for the whole family at the Riverside Arts Center. Featuring indie art from a wide variety of talented vendors, handcrafted food and drinks by local legends, and craft beer, this show has something for everyone!

Downtown Ypsi Christmas Dinner
When: Wednesday, December 17
Where: St. Luke’s Episcopal Church
Details: Join downtown area businesses, individuals, and the Washtenaw County Sheriff for the 2014 Downtown Ypsilanti Area Christmas Dinner.

Holiday Lights Ride
When: Wednesday, December 17
Where: Arbor Brewing Company Microbrewery
Details: A fairly short ride (8-10 miles) through Ypsi residential neighborhoods to take view Christmas light displays from your bike. Socializing afterward at the ABC Microbrewery

Ypsilanti Community Choir Christmas Concert
When: Thursday, December 18
Where: Towsley Auditorium
Details: The Ypsilanti Community Choir Christmas Concert will take place on Tuesday, December 18 at 7:30 pm at the Towsley Auditorium with featured soloist Ruth Myers.

Krampus Ball 2014
When: Saturday, December 20
Where: Dreamland Theater
Details: This year’s holiday costume dance party will be filled with the usual fun and debauchery. Prizes will be for best costume and dance moves. We are excited to be in a new venue and plan the usual midnight march to a new, weird location TBA. No cover. Libations will be sold and to benefit the Dreamland Theater. 21+

Wurst Ugly Christmas Sweater Party
When: Tuesday, December 23
Where: The Wurst Bar
Details: Founders tap takeover; KBS, Backwoods Bastard, Dark Penance, Oatmeal Stout, Breakfast Stout, Mosaic, Reds Rye. We will have a glazed ham brat with fried Brussel sprouts tossed in honey and raisins served with a slice of Pecan Pie. Guests showing up in Ugly Christmas Sweaters will receive the first availability on KBS!!

Highland Cemetery Winter Tour
When: Friday, December 26- Sunday, December 28
Where: Highland Cemetery
Details: Highland is an outstanding example of the “garden” or “rural” style of cemetery design, popular in this country during the 19th century. The garden cemetery movement sought to create tranquil places where visitors could find solace in the beauty of a natural setting. Join local historian James Mann on a tour through the Highland Cemetery and learn more about the history of the cemetery.

Midnight Madness on Main Street
When: Friday, December 5
Where: Main Street, Ann Arbor
Details: It’s party time in the Main Street area! The stores will be open late! There will be tons of Holiday Sales! Santa Claus and Miss Washtenaw County will be roaming the streets from 7:00 – 9:00 pm! Join local business owners as they welcome guests with extra special savings!

Kerrytown Midnight Madness
When: Friday, December 5
Where: Kerrytown District
Details: Shops are open ’til Midnight during this Festive Ann Arbor tradition. Live music, great food, and best of all, really great sales for your holiday shopping!

Details: The 6th Annual KindleFest in the Ann Arbor Farmers Market, featuring artisans selling their goods and wares for the holiday season, live music, lantern parade, mulled spiced wine, fire pits, s’more roasting, German food and more!

10th Annual Chelsea Lights Parade
When: Saturday, December 6
Where: Along Main Street
Details: Featuring dozens of lighted floats and vehicles, marching bands, and the big guy himself, Santa! Parade starts at Chelsea State Bank’s south-end lot and ends at the Chelsea Teddy Bear Company for the free community afterglow party with refreshments.

27th Annual Chelsea Hometown Holiday
When: Friday, December 6- Sunday, December 8
Where: Chelsea Area
Details: A festive, fun-filled weekend celebration that kicks off the holiday season. The activities start with Santa lighting the giant Christmas tree at Pierce Park on Friday night and ends with a holiday carol concert featuring singing groups from the churches of Chelsea on Sunday evening.

Saline Holiday Parade
When: Saturday, December 6
Where: Saline Area
Details: Featuring floats, bands, baton twirlers and Santa arriving in his Sleigh with his chief Elf. Don’t forget to Head to Santa’s Village after the parade at Stone Arch Arts and Events for more holiday cheer.

Christmas Around The World | Milan’s Annual Christmas Parade
When: Saturday, December 6
Where: Milan Area
Details: The parade steps off at 6:00 pm, ending in Wilson Park, where Gandee Brothers will light the city Christmas tree. The parade will have a lot of fun entries including floats, walkers, animals, marching band, music, vehicles, and more.

WCC Band- Laughing All The Way
When: Thursday, December 11
Where: Towsley Auditorium | Washtenaw Community College
Details: Join the Washtenaw Community Concert Band for a performance from the 2014-15 concert series at the Towsley Auditorium in Ann Arbor featuring some of your favorite holiday hits.

Holiday Pops Concert
When: Friday, December 12
Where: Hill Auditorium
Details: Be a part of Ann Arbor’s holiday tradition in this joyful, festive concert. It is a perfect way to welcome in your holiday season. Full of music-making and merriment, the choruses of Ann Arbor’s Huron and Pioneer High Schools, plus the resonant voices of the men of Measure for Measure join your A2SO to fill you with the holiday spirit.

Details: For anyone naughty or nice, walker or running, come breathe in the December night air, burn a few holiday calories and give back to others.

Mittenfest IX
When: Thursday, January 1- Sunday, January 4
Where: The Blind Pig in Ann Arbor
Details: Head to the Blind Pig in Ann Arbor as Mittenfest VII rings in the New Year with dancing and tons of great bands. This annual music festival features mostly Michigan musicians and a few regional acts.
