2013 Ypsi Area Holiday Events

The bells will be a ringing, Rudolph will be a running, and the carolers will be a singing! This holiday season, the Ypsilanti area goes red, green, blue, silver and, in Michigan tradition, icy cold. We’re arming you with ideas and links to some of the best seasonal events for this holiday season; be sure to check back for updates.

2013 Ypsilanti Holiday Events

Starlight Spree and Tree Lighting
When: Friday, December 6 (6-7:30pm)
Where: Downtown Ypsilanti
Details: Sing carols, light the downtown tree, enjoy hot cocoa and cookies, and meet Santa! Then stroll through downtown, and do some holiday shopping.

Depot Town Tree-Lighting Celebration
When: Saturday, December 7
Where: Depot Town
Details: To kick off Christmas Ypsilanti style, the Depot Town Association is hosting a tree-lighting celebration. This event will additionally include roaming carolers and a visit from Santa.

Go Santa Go 5K
When: Saturday, December 7
Where: Rolling Hills Park
Details: Be part of a new holiday tradition, enjoy holiday music, candy and cookies along the course. Every participant will receive their choice of a Santa shirt, hat and beard, or an elf shirt and hat to wear while running.

Breakfast with Santa
When: Saturday, December 14
Where: Depot Town
Details: Enjoy a nice holiday breakfast with Santa in Depot Town.

17th Holiday Stroll and Downtown Tour
When: Saturday, December 14- Sunday, December 15
Where: Ypsilanti Area
Details: Enjoy the evening by browsing 3 unique loft spaces and  5 festive businesses decorated for the Holiday season.  Food prepared by local restaurants along with beverages & music will be part of our “Taste of Ypsilanti.”

D.I.Ypsi – An Indie Art Fair

When: Saturday, December 14- Sunday, December 15
Where: Corner Brewery
Details: A handmade art fair for the whole family at Ypsilanti’s Corner Brewery. Featuring indie art from a wide variety of talented vendors, handcrafted food and drinks by local legends, and craft beer, this show has something for everyone!

Holiday Lights Ride
When: Tuesday, December 17 at 7:00 pm
Where: Corner Brewery
Details: A fairly short ride (8-10 miles) through Ypsi residential neighborhoods to take view Christmas light displays from your bike. Socializing afterward at the Corner Brewery.

Depot Town Midnight Madness
When: TBD
Where: Depot Town
Details: Come and shop all the great stores in Depot Town and be on the look out for awesome Holiday specials and deals. Stores will be open late!

Ypsilanti Community Choir Christmas Concert
When: Thursday, December 19
Where: Towsley Auditorium
Details: The Ypsilanti Community Choir Christmas Concert will take place on Tuesday, December 18 at 7:30 pm at the Towsley Auditorium with featured soloist Ruth Myers.

Krampus Costume Ball
When: Saturday, December 21
Where: Corner Brewery
Details: Stop by for special brews, dancing, crazy costumes and a well-deserved night of mischief during the holiday season!

Mittenfest VIII
When: Friday, December 27- Tuesday, December 31
Where: Woodruff’s
Details: Head to Ypsilanti’s Depot Town as Mittenfest VII rings in the New Year with five nights of dancing and 60 bands. This annual music festival features mostly Michigan musicians and a few regional acts.

Midnight Madness on Main Street
When: Friday, December 6
Where: Main Street, Ann Arbor
Details: It’s party time in the Main Street area! The stores will be open late! There will be tons of Holiday Sales! Santa Claus and Miss Washtenaw County will be roaming the streets from 7:00 – 9:00 pm! Join local business owners as they welcome guests with extra special savings!

Kerrytown Midnight Madness
When: Friday, December 6
Where: Kerrytown District
Details: Shops are open ’til Midnight during this Festive Ann Arbor tradition. Live music, great food, and best of all, really great sales for your holiday shopping!

KindleFest
When: Friday, December 6
Where: Ann Arbor Farmer’s Market (Kerrytown)
Details: The 5th Annual KindleFest in the Ann Arbor Farmers Market, featuring artisans selling their goods and wares for the holiday season, live music, lantern parade, mulled spiced wine, fire pits, s’more roasting, German food and more!

26th Annual Chelsea Hometown Holiday
When: Friday, December 6- Sunday, December 8
Where: Chelsea Area
Details: A festive, fun-filled weekend celebration that kicks off the holiday season. The activities start with Santa lighting the giant Christmas tree at Pierce Park on Friday night and ends with a holiday carol concert featuring singing groups from the churches of Chelsea on Sunday evening.

Saline Holiday Parade
When: Saturday, December 7
Where: Saline
Details: Featuring floats, bands, baton twirlers and Santa arriving in his Sleigh with his chief Elf. Don’t forget to Head to Santa’s Village after the parade at Stone Arch Arts and Events for more holiday cheer.

Holiday Pops Concert
When: Friday, December 13
Where: Hill Auditorium
Details: Gather up and enjoy the sounds of the season with your Ann Arbor Symphony Orchestra including excerpts from The Nutcracker, and glorious choral music by Measure for Measure and Skyline High School’s Cel Canto and A Capella Choruses.
